Meet Kate Erickson

Teacher, Parent, Leader

Teacher: Kate has dedicated her life to education. For over a decade, she has worked as professor of History at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), teaching classes ranging from American History to Native American History. In her role, she has written and developed curriculum, as well having taught both in-person, and online courses.

Kate has also served considerable time on various education committees, from the Shawano School District’s Strategic Planning Committee in her hometown, to the MATC DEI Grant Committee. She is currently serving as a Board Member and as the Communications Director of the Wisconsin Indian Education Association.

Kate has given regular presentations as a community educator on various Native American History and culture topics around Ozaukee County and Southeastern Wisconsin.

She has the experience and knowledge it takes to provide EVERY student with an excellent education, no matter your race, income, or background.

Parent: Like many district residents, Kate is a parent.  Kate and her family settled here in Cedarburg in 2008 because of the excellent opportunities and support our community and district provide. Her daughter is currently a student at Webster Middle School.

Wanting the best education possible for her daughter and other students is what inspired Kate to get involved with our local school board over three years ago and is what drove her to run for school board.

Being a parent means Kate has a real stake in seeing our district succeed, now and in the years ahead.

Leader: From her heritage as a member of the Oneida Nation, to her work as an educator, Kate understands that being an effective leader means  building consensus, making sure that every voice is heard, and putting our students and community first.

Over the past three years, Kate has worked tirelessly to help our district. She has regularly attended our school board meetings and worked to make our board more responsive, transparent, and collaborative with the public. This has included providing public recordings of many of the Cedarburg School Board’s general meetings, as well as committee hearings, a service not currently provided by the board itself.

In her run for School Board last spring, Kate regularly hosted community office hours to provide voters with every reasonable opportunity to ask her questions and have their voice be heard, something she would aim to continue as a member of the board.

EVERY student deserves to have the tools and resources they need to excel. That’s what Kate will fight for as a member of our school board.
